Buying You First Guitar.You've determined you want to become skilled at the guitar but are uncertain of what to get? Playing the guitar is something practically every person desires to do, but the minority have the endurance and the work ethic to stick with it for any extended period of time. I am a heavy advocate of learning to play with the acoustic guitar before transitioning to the electric guitar. Acoustic guitars are not as fogiving or easy to play as electric guitars and push you to strike every note without a glitch. If you don't, you and each person you are playing in front of will realize. This will build up great finger strength and agility, a great base for turning into a high-quality guitarist. Loads of guitar companies like Ibanez and Fender offer good acoustic beginner packages. I would suggest going as economical as you can for your very first guitar. You can always upgrade should you make your mind up to stick with it. And if you don't, you aren't out $900 for that nice Taylor that's collecting dust in the corner.
If you insist on starting out with an electric guitar, I would another time look at the various novice packages that are available by several of the bigger guitar corporations. Squire, Ibanez and Epiphone all make great starter packages that will have everything you need; guitar, strap, amp, cable. etc.. Your community pawn shops are a nice resource for fine, used electric guitars as well. No one said that you had to buy a new guitar to be taught on. I have found some of my best gutars from going to various pawn shops.
Several of the best musicans that have ever lived have began on the worst guitars possible. The guitar does not make you a celebrated player. Being a talented play is what makes your guitar sound superior. A quick google search for 'worst first guitar' will show you just how many of us have started off with what would be considered a toy guitar to most.
If you are determined to getting a new guitar, I advise doing your homework. Don't go out and purchase the first thing you set eyes on. Visit several stores, sit down & strum on and see what feels enjoyable to play on. I would suggest talking to the sales personell in the stores. They are going to be one of your more knowledgable resources on guitars. The internet is also a valuable resource for guitar reviews that can help you when making your decision.
To put it as straightforwardly as I can. Your first guitar must have 6 strings and stay in tune enough to use. The harder it is to fret the guitar, the better off you will be in the future, even if you face a slower start as a result. Picking up the guitar was one of the most satisfying decisions I have ever made and it has given me a whole new love of music that I wish for you to find when you purchase a guitar.
