The Recording Studio ProcessWe all know the basic function of a recording studio, but the details of the process are somewhat mysterious to most beginner musicians. Here is a look at some of the terminology and process associated with producing a finely recorded piece of music.

Setting up

Most recording studios consist of a main recording space which often contains special padded walls and isolation booths. This serves to control the acoustics of the room and capture the purest audio possible. Some studios may have side rooms especially designed for capturing electric guitar or drums.

The control room is where the main recording console resides. This is where everything is controlled during the recording process. Recording consists of capturing each instrument to its own tape or digital track. Afterwards it can be properly mixed, have reverb or other effects added and even have minor mistakes corrected.

The Recording Process

Most studios record one instrument at a time. The person being recorded is fitted with headphones where he can hear the other musicians playing along or the previous sections of the song already recorded. The drummer may also have a
